A fisherman casting his net into the Amaravathi river kept pulling up a stone shaped like a Linga. Perplexed, he hurled it onto the riverbank, yet the stone reappeared in his net with each attempt. Shocked, he returned home. That night, Goddess Mariamman appeared in his dream, revealing that she had manifested as the Linga stone. He promptly informed the villagers, who gathered at the site. However, they found only a protruding spot on the ground. Despite their efforts, the hole beneath seemed endless. Recognizing its sanctity, they constructed a temple on the spot to honor the divine presence of Goddess Mariamman.
